20-year-old Indio was arrested and booked for cocaine possession in late June before being released on bail
Robert Downey Jr.’s son Indio has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance after being arrested in late June.
Indio Downey, 20, who is currently in rehab, was arrested and booked for cocaine possession in late June, but as a first time offender is automatically entitled to a drug diversion program.
The Hollywood actor’s eldest child has also been charged with misdemeanour possession of drug paraphernalia, according to gossip website TMZ.com.
Robert, who previously battled drug addiction himself and was arrested numerous times in the 1990s on drug-related charges, thanked the LA County Sheriff’s Department for “their intervention.”
He was later released on $10,000 bail and shortly afterwards he voluntarily checked into a treatment facility.

Following his son’s arrest, Robert, 49, put out a statement, saying there is “a lot of family support and understanding”.
The actor, who famously battled drug addiction and spent time in prison in the late ’90s, also said his 20-year-old son is likely to have inherited the genetic component to addiction.
The Hollywood actor’s full statement read: “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being.
“We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”
Indio, whose mother is the actor’s ex-wife Deborah Falconer, starred alongside his father in blockbuster Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
In 1997 Hollywood star Robert was given a 180-day jail sentence in LA for violating probation.
It’s reported he was targeted by other inmates and twice woke up from attacks in a pool of his own blood.

In 1999, he was sentenced to three years in a state-run substance abuse facility after failing to show up for a court-ordered drugs test.
He served 12 months of his sentence before he was freed by a judge.
He previously said of his time in jail: “I would never tell you the worst things that have happened to me.”
In recent years he’s become the most in-demand actor in Hollywood.
The teetotal 48-year-old – whose finally stint in rehab was reportedly 2003 – is believed to have been paid the biggest sum for a single movie in history after commanding $100 million for a leading role.
